Best Stuff We Did In 2020
Instead of a self-serving twitter thread, we decided to do a self-serving substack post because we have class.
Happy New Year! It’s so hard to believe that we made it through 2020. They say that playoff minutes in the NBA are worth two regular-season minutes in terms of wear and fatigue, and the same applies to the time we spent in 2020.
We launched Ball Through The Ages in April, when no sports were being played, to share some of our favorite sports stories with you all. Since then, sports have returned and our podcast/newsletter has evolved to doing a bunch of other stuff like handing out betting advice, making jokes about our manscapped ads and talking about current sports. We joined the Armchair Media Network in July and have been steadily growing our audience since.
In 2021, Ball Through The Ages will change up a little bit as we will be announcing next week. But before moving on to a new year and era, it’s time to look back at some of the best stuff we did in 2020 with Ball Through The Ages and other places.
Best of Ball Through The Ages
The Willis Reed Game: Game 7, 1970 NBA Finals: Our very first episode is one of the best we have done because the subject was just amazingly deep. The story about Nixon’s press conference tucked into the game is the best side story we’ve found throughout this podcast.
1984 College Football Season (and Four Seasons Total Landscaping): We inadvertently cursed BYU with this show but also got to make fun of the funniest thing to happen in American history. Good times.
1971 NBA Finals: An ode to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wes Unseld: We talked about two of our favorite players and people in NBA history, hopefully eloquently but certainly heartfelt. RIP Wes Unseld.
Looking back at Sue Bird's First WNBA Finals by Gabe: Sue Bird has won a WNBA championship in each of the last three decades, and going back to her first one showed me just how far the league has come.
The Myth of the Small Market NBA Team’s Struggle by Alex: We got tired of hearing that “small market teams can’t win in the NBA” and dove into what small markets actually are and why they fail.
Arkansas Has The College Football Title Belt by Gabe: For a brief moment, Arkansas was atop the college football world and what a glorious moment it was.
Underdogs in the NBA Finals by Gabe: As the Miami Heat competed for a title, we tried to compare them to other underdogs to make the NBA Finals. And talked about Jack Sikma because that is always fun.
